High Commission of Malaysia in Ottawa, Canada

Malaysia and Canada first established bilateral relations in 1957, the year Malaysia gained independence. As a fellow commonwealth nation, Canada was among the first countries to establish bilateral relations with Malaysia.

The first High Commissioner of Malaysia to Canada on 18 April 1967 was the late Tan Sri Ong Yoke Lin. Tan Sri Ong was at the time based in Washington and concurrently accredited to Canada. The High Commission of Malaysia began physical operations in Canada on 11 April 1968 under the leadership of the late Dato’ Mohd Ismail Yusof, the first resident High Commissioner and the second High Commissioner of Malaysia accredited to Canada.

The High Commission office was then operating from a rented building before moving to its current address at 60 Boteler Street K1N 8Y7 which was purchased by the Government of Malaysia in 1974.
