Malaysian Embassy in Algiers, Algeria

The Embassy of Malaysia in Algiers was established on April 2001 with the aim of strengthening its political, economic and social-cultural links with The People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria. The Embassy was first situated at the Sofitel Hotel before moving to a building in Ben Aknoun, Algiers.

On February 2006, the Embassy then moved to a new building in Chemin Poirson, El-Biar. Previously, on October 2009, the Embassy has moved to a new office in Hydra, Algiers.

Algeria established its Embassy in Kuala Lumpur in 1993.

Renewal of Passports

Malaysian in Algeria may renew their passports through the Embassy.

Applicants are advised to submit their applicants well ahead of time (e.g. 6 months before the passport expires or when the passport has 3 pages left) since the renewal also takes some time to be processed. Requirements for passport renewal are as follows:

• An application form (obtainable from the Embassy);
• 2 recent coloured photos (3.5 x 5cm );
• Current passport;
• Identity card;
• Birth certificate (if any);
• Passport fee of RM300.00 for 32-page passport or RM600.00 for 64-page passport (payable in equivalent amount in local currency); and
• For applicants below 12 years old and overseas students below 21 years old, passport fee is RM150.00.

Emergency Certificate

Malaysians are required to immediately report the loss of their passports to nearest local police station. The Embassy, in this case, may issue an Emergency Certificate to those Malaysians to facilitate their return to Malaysia.

Requirements for the Emergency Certificate are as follows:

• An application form (obtainable from the Embassy);
• A questionnaire on the loss of the passport (will be provided by the Embassy);
• 2 recent coloured photos (3.5 cm x 5.0 cm);
• Identity card;
• Birth certificate (if any);
• Extract copy of the police report;
• Emergency Certificate fee of RM50.00 (payable in equivalent amount in local currency).

Other Services

The Embassy also offers the following services and provides assistance in following cases:

• Registration of absent voters for qualified Malaysians in Algeria;
• Serving judicial documents to defendants in Malaysia or in Algeria;
• Obtaining diplomatic clearance for Malaysian aircrafts flying over or landing in the Algerian territory;
• Locating missing Malaysians in Algeria;
• Arrest of Malaysians in Algeria;
• Death of Malaysians in Algeria; and
• Emergency situation such as flood, earthquake etc.
